Since I've been on the web since before Google existed - I've seen websites evolve from very simple colors, layouts and styles to much more complex eye-pleasing designs. Design now is not as simple as it's used to be, with the advent of things like usability analysis, information architecture etc. Designs are created from layouts (called wireframes) that do not have color/etc in them.
My designs are very simple and purpose-driven. They are kept that way for a purpose - to allow your website users to accomplish that you want them to on the website.

Once you know you want a website, we'll follow this process:

• Plan and set goals for the website (including audience, pageviews/visits and revenue goals)
  Includes deciding on domain names
• Develop structure for website (through the eyes of your website user)
• Start design
• Proof design concepts and complete design following 3 design iterations to make sure you are happy with your website look and feel
• Setup website hosting account on my server
• Code html and program any necessary features
• Create, copy and transfer content to your test website
• Review and quality check your website
• Setup Google analytics account
• Launch website
• Monitor and make any necessary post-launch changes
• Start following monthly process of reviewing website statistics and providing updates
